ACUTE Center
Working together since 2022
ACUTE, a Center of Excellence at Denver Health, is the only program in the world treating patients with extreme medical complications of eating disorders and severe malnutrition. We build and maintain their Drupal site, which runs on its own install, built from the same shared codebase we maintain for Pathlight.
- Multi-step intake and admissions forms that create and manage patient records in Salesforce
- Referral and professional signup flows for clinicians sending patients into the program
- A shared module layer across multiple sites, with ACUTE's own theme, content model and admin experience
- Moved off Acquia to a managed VPS along with the organization's other sites, a move that cut hosting costs by 80%
- Requests come to us directly from the client's content editors, not through a single account contact
About this project
The challenge
Patients arrive at ACUTE in crisis, and referring clinicians are often working against the clock, so an admission inquiry cannot sit in an inbox waiting to be re-keyed into a clinical system. ACUTE also belongs to the same organization as Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center, and the two sites need to behave consistently without collapsing into one site or being maintained twice over.
What we built
We build and maintain ACUTE on Drupal. It runs on its own install, built from a shared codebase and module layer we maintain across the client's sites, so a change to the intake logic or a Salesforce field is made once and reaches every site, while ACUTE keeps its own theme, content model and admin experience on top of it. The multi-step intake and admissions forms create and update patient records directly in Salesforce, and separate referral and professional signup flows handle clinicians sending patients into the program. When the organization moved its sites off Acquia onto a managed VPS at Liquid Web, ACUTE moved with them, without changing how the site works or what their team does day to day.
The result
That organization-wide move off Acquia cut hosting fees by 80%, and ACUTE's Drupal build and Salesforce integrations came across untouched. Since then we have reworked the intake and admissions forms and fixed problems that predated our work, so patients and referring clinicians can start an admission with less friction. The site is in continuous development and support with us, and the shared module layer means improvements made for one of the client's sites are available to the others. ACUTE is one of three web properties we look after for the organization, and we operate as its web team: editors bring requests straight to us, not through an account manager, which is why turnaround is measured in days.
